The work of Martin Lukáč balances between free-form creation and thorough reflection. Martin works across different kinds of media, although painting and drawing dominate his portfolio. He often harks back to history of art and borrows several various motifs from it and then he re-creates, mixes and inserts it all into current context. One of the recurring motifs is a grid, which literally becomes a net which the contents of his works take place on. Contrary to its original use as a modernistic way of laying out space, in Martin’s work, the grid evolves into a virtual net which all of us moves about daily.
