In his works, René Wagner plays both, affirmative and critical with the fetish character and the materiality of objects. He takes objects of the tuning scene, be it rims, bonnets or helmets and exposes them as a trivial men’s eroticism. At the same time, this refraction in art is inflated in a sophisticated way. After all, what initially appears to be an embarrassing and exaggerated automobile-tuning-culture is now almost becoming something sacral and immaterial. And so, under all this absurd superficiality, a sophisticated sense of being lurks. The works of Rene Wagner are revealing, whereby the artist does not allow them to end in a tired context of meaning. Rather, the viewer remains confused because you do not know if it’s fun or serious. Either way, Rene Wagner does the balancing act between antique and modern, serious and bizarre with intoxicating.
” Art is a universe in which you have to implement thoughts and stories haptically. ”
