Nervous system(s), snooze (in9)
Kunsthalle Turku, Finland
21.02 – 22.03
At Kunsthalle Turku, Dylan presents a selection of recent works, which tune together the artist’s personal tensions and social insecurities. The exhibition consists of large ink drawings on repurposed fabrics and material manipulations installed in the gallery. In the drawings a nervous line morphs into spaces and surfaces of motifs and patterns. In the installation, the line continues, drawing together a fragile diagram of visceral expectations and desires.
(The artist claims that the works are wrinkles in a strained world where resources, explanations, and meaning are at once plentiful and scarce.)
The works are cleanly organized, but stuck somewhere between the flee-fight-freeze -modes. This echoes the difficulty of change and choice, both on a systemic and everyday level. The process has been further disturbed by speculations and podcasts on addictions, agency, lotto, procrastination and prophecy, virtuality, and, for example, alienation, humor, joy and anxiety as energy. Surrounded by all these stimuli, there might still be a bit of rest, relax & digest.
The exhibition has been supported by The Arts Promotion Centre Finland and The Finnish Cultural Foundation.
