Lauryn Youden (1989) is a Canadian artist based in Berlin, Germany.
Her practice spans video, photography, installation, sculpture and performance. Each are explorations in the history and methods of alternative healing practices including traditional plant-based medicine, sound healing, aromatherapy, meditation and alchemy.
Her artworks are antidotes for mental and physical states of dis-ease: largely influenced by the treatments of the artists’ own physical and mental ailments. These include performances sessions of the production of antidotes, the process of application and the resulting healing effects on the viewer and participant. Recurring sessions in Youden’s practice are guided relaxation and breathing techniques, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy exercises, meditations, OOBE and alchemic rituals.
Lauryn Youden has recently exhibited at Galerie Jerome Pauchant, Paris (FR), Import Projects, Berlin (DE), Limbo Limbo, London (UK), Inferno Online, Stockholm (SE), 8eleven, Toronto (CA), Index Gallery, Vancouver (CA), Sunset Terrace, Vancouver (CA). Youden is founder and co-curator of Ashley Berlin, an artist-run exhibition space for emerging local and international artists.
