Taizo Matsuyama is based in Berlin and Tokyo and explores abstract compositions in mixed media from found papers and objects. He is working on diverse mediums such as drawing, printmaking, sculptures, photography, videos and more.
I am interested in something that happens unintentionally. I always plan the procedure that it would be able to give the unexpected results to my works. I believe the medium I choose that has already includes myself in it.
Found objects are always inspiring. My series “Very nature” and video “Nine” are the record of one-off sculptures I made with found stuff those I bumped into mostly in Berlin and Tokyo. I just give them alternative functions as they lead me. It is to create that very nature itself. I regard this project as a collection of nature landscape photography.
I mostly transfer from one medium to other one each time I do the projects. One of the reasons is I like a kind of arts that ideas outweigh its techniques, so I should not get used to any methods. And other reason is just for having fun – it might be the fastest way to bring me to other places just like a journey.
Being a stranger is the best way to be creative and productive. Berlin is a nice place to get to know many artists from all spheres, and also an ideal place to be alone and concentrate.
” Art is a loop line. It leads me to public places and it brings me back to the hidden places of mine. “
