Les moules à oublies – Charlie Boisson
Les moules à oublies
Le Creux de l’enfer, Thiers
09.07 – 26.09 2021
Between the contemporary waffle mold and the ecclesiastical communion wafer irons, there is a tool for making very thin medieval pastries decorated with intricate patterns and symbols: the “oblivion mold” (moule à oublies). The forged plates of the instrument bear various engravings that suggestively represent the peasant society with its customs and beliefs. The oublies were mainly sold during the carnival: at nightfall, the oublieur took his basket and went to have customers gamble for the pastries, hoping to make a profit.
Exhibition produced in partnership with the city of Saint Étienne.
